Lot 1832

$20 Gold St. Gaudens. 1907. High relief, Roman numerals, flat rim. PCGS graded MS-64. A second chance to acquire a scarce Flat Rim 1907 High Relief double eagle! Lustrous and golden with mark-free legs and fields. Only the lightest hairlines can be found on this near-gem example. As noted previously, the Flat Rim (Edge) varities are much scarcer than the Wire Rim varities. In fact, PCGS reports that they have graded only 96 Flat Rim examples in MS64 versus 910 Wire Rim examples in MS64. This difference in the population structure is notable and premiums should be higher than they currently are for these Flat Rim examples (PCGS # 9136) .
Estimated Value $18,000 - 20,000.

Realized $25,300
