Lot 1752

$10 Gold Indian. 1908. No motto. NGC graded MS-66. An absolutely breathtaking, superb gem example of the pinnacle of American numismatic design. Luster so thick and pristine that it emulates shifting desert sands. All lettering, stars and devices have been struck up definitively. Surfaces have a microgranular and satiny texture and are untouched by scratches or hairlines. For the purposes of identification, there is a small diagonal tick mark near the chin. The 1908 No Motto eagle had mintage of only 33,500 pieces, a small figure and rivaled only by the figures of the 1907 Wire and Rolled Edge varieties (500 and 31,550, respectively) and the 1911-D (30,100). When seen as pristine as this specimen, the 1908 No Motto eagle not only represents a Condition Census example for this issue but also an example of great art! NGC has graded only 8 in this grade, 5 in MS67 and a single MS68 as finest.
Estimated Value $15,000 - 20,000.

Realized $12,075
