1871 Pattern Five Cents. Nickel, plain edge. Judd-1050. Pollock-1184. Rarity-5. PCGS graded Proof 64. A seldom seen pattern issue fusing the federal issue three cent nickel appearance with a non-federal nickel reverse. Liberty's head faces left with a coronet inscribed with LIBERTY. The reverse possesses a laurel wreath enclosing a reversed Roman numeral V with the word CENTS underneath. Both obverse and revese have light gray surfaces with a faint original film on them. Liberty's device is slightly cameo against the fields. From the Harry Bass, Jr collection and denoted as such on the PCGS holder. PCGS has graded 9 in PR64, 4 in PR65 and a single PR66 as finest (PCGS # 61309) .
