Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 25

Lot 2620

1930-S $10 Indian. PCGS graded MS-65 PQ. According to our consignor, this coin was hand-picked by noted gold expert, David Akers, out of a small hoard of 1930-S Eagles that turned up in the 1990's. We can't confirm such an attribution but we can certainly believe it. This is clearly a very special coin, one which would catch the eye of any appreciative collector. This is a coin of exceptional beauty, with deep, satiny mint luster and a delicious orange-yellow color. The strike is very sharp, with just a trifling of the characteristic weakness on the Y of LIBERTY and the feathers on the eagle's left leg. We like this piece every bit as much as the identically graded 1930-S Eagle in the William Thomas Michaels collection, sold in a recent Stack's sale for $42,000!

Apparently, most of the 96,000 Eagles of this date were melted, as the surviving population is estimated to be only around 100-150 pieces (PCGS # 8883) .
Estimated Value $28,000 - 35,000.

Realized $34,500
