1795 C-2b R6+ Punctuated Date, Plain Edge. PCGS graded EF-45. Beautiful glossy medium brown and light chocolate blending to medium chocolate brown in the field above the head. The surfaces are smooth, the fields are hard and very slightly reflective, and the only post-striking marks are a few very faint horizontal hairline scratches on the jaw and a single hairline in the field right of the Y in LIBERTY. There is a minor planchet clip affecting portions of the dentils at the top of the obverse and the opposing dentils on the reverse plus a couple tiny planchet chips under the 17 (all as struck). It may be interesting to note that a significant percentage of the known examples of this very rare variety have incomplete planchets. This includes the Breen plate coin and the example in the famous Missouri Cabinet Collection (the finest and only complete half cent collection ever formed). In fact the piece being offered here is far superior to the one in the Missouri Cabinet (our sale 1/26/2014:26, PCGS graded VF30, our grade F15, $18,400). LDS, Manley state 3.0, with an obvious bulge at AMER extending nearly to the F in OF. The reverse is rotated 15 degrees clockwise. Weight 79.47 grains (versus the 84.0-grain standard for thin planchet strikes). A very important opportunity for the serious collector of half cents. Our grade is VF35.
