Lot 251

1840 N-8 R1 Large Date. PCGS graded MS-65+ Brown. CAC. Beautiful lustrous medium steel brown and light olive with traces of faded mint red on the reverse. The surfaces are satiny and virtually flawless, and the eye appeal of this cent is superb. The only notable marks, and they are visible only under magnification, are a tiny diagonal nick-like planchet void right of star 3 and a very shallow planchet flake under the I in UNITED (both as struck). LDS, die state d, with several well-defined rim cud breaks on the obverse. A beautiful cent and a neat die state. Our grade is MS64+, close to MS65, and CC#3 in the Grellman census. The attribution and Great Pacific Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 1 finer in 66. (PCGS # 395840) Value $2,000 - UP
Ex Heritage Auctions 1/2006:629-Great Pacific Collection (lot ticket included).
