Lot 1048

1796. PCGS graded MS-63. CAC. PQ. JR-3, Rarity-5. This is tough die pairing along with being a beautiful choice coin for the specialist or type collector. The surfaces are mostly bright silver with a with reflective fields and nice light gold tone. Boldly struck throughout, with strong curl definition on Liberty and all of the eagle's wing feathers clear, with nearly all of the breast feathers sharp and clear as well. A small retained cud is noted above the first T of STATES to the rim, this is seen on just a handful of coins from these dies. A remarkable example of this first year of issue of the dime denomination, and a coin that would make a welcome addition to any advanced colleciton. Only 22,135 struck. Pop 15; 26 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 4461) Value $28,000 - 30,000
