Lot 1839

1871 Pattern Quarter Dollar. Copper, reeded edge. Judd-1094. Pollock-1230. High Rarity 7. PCGS graded Proof 64 Red & Brown. CAC. PQ. Lots of mint red. This is a stunning pattern issue which shows elegant designs and these are especially attractive when found on a gem like this with faded red! The obverse depicts the Indian Princess seated, wearing a headdress similar to that on the gold dollar or Three-dollar gold piece, flanked by flags and a long pole with the cap of freedom raised high. Her left hand rests on the globe, inscribed LIBERTY in raised letters. The date is below, otherwise the design is like a cameo of open fields. For the reverse the normal dies of the quarter of this year are used. Struck in copper. A great rarity in any grade, this towering gem will certainly make a wise selection for the advanced collector. Pop 1; 1 finer in 65+. (PCGS # 71353) Estimate Value $8,000 - 9,000
