Lot 1382

1907. High relief, Roman numerals. PCGS graded MS-62. CAC. A nice frosty coin with gleeming luster and the expected bold strike. The surfaces are quite clean, especially for the grade assigned, and this beauty will make a handsome addition to any advanced collection. The elegant design was by the famed sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens. His concept of such a high relief coin was nearly impossible to strike up with modern coining presses, and each of these High Relief coins required four to seven strikes by the dies to bring up the central designs completely. Thus production was greatly slowed down by these multiple strikes and these were simply impracticle to produce. Today, these coins stand as one of the greatest achievements of the Mint, and are widely regarded as our most beautiful coin ever struck. Housed in an Old Green Holder. Only 11,250 struck (PCGS # 9135) Estimate Value $12,000 - 13,000

Realized $21,738
