1838 Pattern Half Dollar. Copper, reeded edge. Judd-81. Pollock-88. Low Rarity 7. PCGS graded Proof 64 Red & Brown. CAC. PQ. This is the only example to retain mint color to this degree, and although these are believed to have been struck somewhat later than the 1838 date, they have long been collected and are represented by no more than six examples, and possibly as few as three exist. A classic rarity from the pettern series that is noteworthy for its design and elegant surfaces graced with considerable mint red. Pop 1; the only example graded at both services.
