Lot 994

1878. PCGS graded Proof 65. Lovely rainbow toning of gunmetal blue and gray, with rose and teal accents on both sides. The surfaces are highly reflective in the fields, and the devices frosty. This is the final year of issue for this denomination, which was struck for circulation in 1875 and 1876 only. Proofs continued in 1877 and 1878, but in quite limited numbers. As such this is a hotly collected series, especially now that new reseach has come out on this series, these will continue to grow in popularity. Only 600 minted. Pop 26; 12 finer, 11 in 66, 1 in 67 (PCGS # 5306) .
Estimated Value $6,000 - 6,500.
