Lot 97

1835 N-19 R5 Head of 1836 PCGS graded G4. Glossy medium olive brown and chocolate. The surfaces are smooth and the only mark is a shallow flake on the right side of star 1. The date is weak but readable, as always on lower grade examples thanks to the heavily worn obverse die, but the legends are clear. Comes with what appears to be an internal cud break that connects the NI in UNITED to the leaf below, possibly a unique die state. Careful inspection recommended by die state specialists. Graded VG7 by John Wright and Del Bland. Our grade is VG7 as well. Estimate Value $175 - UP
Discovered unattributed by John D. Wright at a Chicago coin show in 6/1983-R. E. Matthews, Superior 5/28/1989:775 (where it sold for $3190 when only a few of the die variety were known to exist). Includes the Superior lot ticket and lot description.

Realized $528
