Composers and Teachers: Rubin Goldmark and Sir Alexander Campbell. Rubin Goldmark (1872-1936) American composer and teacher of the young George Gershwin and Aaron Copland. Autograph letter signed, 1 1/3 pages, 9 x 6", New York, Oct. 13, 1928. To Arthur Foote, saying "I am coming to Boston next Wednesday night as Koussevitzky is playing my Negro Rhapsody that week…." and asking if Foote is still a member of the St. Botolph Club, where Goldmark likes to stay. With Sir Alexander Campbell Mackenzie (1847-1935) Scottish composer and educator. Two autograph letters signed "A.C. Mackenzie," one page each, 7 x 4½" and 8 x 5"", London, Feb. 23, 1887 and Nov. 18, 1893. The first, to Mr. Berringer, states that he is working on his next oratorio and is "not at liberty to think of any other…." The second, on Royal Academy of Music letterhead, which is marked through, is to Mr. Berger, expressing sympathy that he was laid up and acknowledging "the vast service you render to the Philharmonic Society…."
