1830 N-6 R4 Medium Letters PCGS graded AU53, CAC Approved. Choice glossy medium brown with slightly darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. Mint frost covers the fields and protected areas and the eye appeal of this cent is outstanding. No spots or stains, only a few minor contact marks. The notable ones are a tiny rim bruise under the 8 in the date and another above star 10. Nicely struck MDS with a faint die crack from the bust tip that fades out as it approaches the dentils between the date and star 1. This example is very nicely struck for a Medium Letters 1830 cent. The vast majority of this variety come with significant weakness along the top of the head and buns, on the lowest curl, on the stars, and in several parts of the wreath. There are no weakly struck areas on this cent, and every star shows complete radial lines. A premium example of this very popular "Redbook" variety. Our grade is EF40. Noyes says EF45 net EF40 and tied for CC#6 (most of the pieces graded higher in his census have weakly struck areas), his photo #25292.
