Lot 93

1847/47 N-2 R3 Large 7 over Small 7 PCGS graded MS62 Brown, CAC Approved. Glossy medium chocolate brown and steel blending to olive brown in the protected areas. Smooth and very attractive, essentially flawless in every respect. Just a hint of friction on the highest points of the devices. The best identifying marks, and they are barely visible with a glass, are a tiny tick on the truncation over the right side of the 8 and another on the right side of the O in ONE. Nicely struck E-MDS, die state a late. The tiny die lines from the dentils at star 13 are clear as is the lump under that star. The "Large 7 over Small 7" feature is obvious, and repunching also shows on the 1 and 4. Our grade is AU55, tied for CC#11 in the Grellman census. A very attractive example of this popular "Redbook" variety. The attribution and Iskra provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 2 finer, 1 in 64+, 1 in 65 for the variety at PCGS. Estimated Value $1,000-UP

Ex Frank Masters-Ed Milas (RARCOA)-Del Bland-Jules Reiver Collection, Heritage 1/24/2006:20263-Chris McCawley 3/4/2011-Fred Iskra Collection.
