Lot 912

1778 Machin's Mills Vlack 11-78A Rarity-3. PCGS graded VF-25. Slightly glossy light chocolate brown with darker chocolate toning in protected areas. The surfaces are covered with extremely fine roughness that could be attributed to pre-striking planchet striations for the most part, but there are no marks or traces of verdigris. The date and legends are clear, although the tops of a few letters on the left sides are fading into the rim thanks to a slightly uneven strike. Overall this is a nice example of one of the early coppers struck in the Colonies (rather than being struck elsewhere for use here). The PCGS grade is conservative for this piece.
Estimated Value $300 - 500.

Realized $575
