Lot 912

1873-CC. NGC graded AU-58. Totally a white coin with some luster visible on both sides. The strike is sharp for this elusive date and mint. Notice how smooth and attractive the fields and devices are, with just a touch of wear on the high points of the design. A key date of the Liberty Seated dollar series, and the rarest "CC" Mint dollar in terms of survivors. Only 2,300 struck, and it is estimated that around 200 exist today. Furthermore from that meager issue, many were apparently melted and never released into circulation, limiting the numbers around today considerably. Finding one this close to mint state is a true challenge, and capturing this coin will certainly put any advanced collection high on the radar of other specialists. A memorable offering. Pop 3; 5 finer, 3 in 61, 1 in 64, 1 in 65. Estimated Value $40,000 - UP
