Lot 904

1867. PCGS graded Proof 65. Wonderful pale blue toning on both sides with flashes of golden irridescence intermixed. The strike is bold on every tiny device right up to the largest dress fold. Outstanding surface quality too, with no handling issues or detracting nicks. This is the second year of the Motto design, which was used from 1866 through 1873 when this series came to an end. Glorious quality and struck soon after the Civil War came to an end, during a time when few people could save such a coin like this, hence the demand was low, and survivors in gem grades are downright rare! A nice looking gem proof. Boldly struck. Only 625 pieces issued. Pop 17; 12 finer, 1 in regular proof, 8 in Proof Cameo, 3 in Deep Cameo. (PCGS # 7015) Estimated Value $7,000 - UP
