Lot 87

1846 N-20 R3 Small Date PCGS graded MS64 Brown, CAC Approved. Lustrous light bluish steel brown with 5% of the faded mint red remaining on both sides. The notable marks are a diagonal nick-like planchet chip in the field off the nose tip and another under the right edge of the second S in STATES. The fields are satiny and the eye appeal is excellent. Sharply struck MDS, die state b. The fine die lines up from the dentils under the 6 and star 13 are gone. Our grade is MS60, tied for CC#5 in the Grellman census. The attribution and Iskra provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; none finer for the variety at PCGS. Estimated Value $600-UP

Ex Tom Reynolds, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 9/14/2003:915-Daniel W. Holmes, Jr., McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 1/30/2011:165-Fred Iskra Collection (includes the Holmes collection envelope and both lot tickets).
