Lot 847

1848 N-9 R1. PCGS graded MS-64 Brown. CAC Approved. Frosty light olive and bluish steel brown with 15% of the mint red remaining. No spots or stains, but a glass reveals many small nicks on the portrait, none distracting but too many to ignore. The best identifying marks are a dull nick on the bust tip and a thin vertical struck-through line (caused by a tiny piece of thread or wire on the die) between the 1 & 8 in the date. E-MDS, die state a late. The fields are starting to display microscopic radial die flowlines but the die crack at ME in AMERICA has not formed. Our grade is MS60. The attribution and Ralls provenance are shown on the PCGS label. PCGS population 3; none finer. (PCGS # 406460) .
Estimated Value $600-UP.
Ex Dr. Robert J. Shalowitz-Wes Rasmussen-Doug Bird-Dr. Philip W. Ralls.
