Lot 84

1817 N-17 R4 PCGS graded AU53. Frosty medium chocolate brown with some lighter brown toning on the left side of the obverse. Hints of flowline luster show in the protected areas on both sides. The only defects are a few areas of extremely faint roughness including one under star 8, another at star 11, and a small one just right of the 7 in the date. MDS with the right top of the first T in STATES clearly raised due to advanced die cracks in that area, but there is no die crack up from the top of that E. An important example of this tough die variety; the finest grades only EF45 by EAC standards. Our grade is EF40. The attribution and Neiswinter provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 3 finer for the variety at PCGS, 2 in 55, 1 in 58. Estimate Value $3,250 - UP
Ex Chris McCawley 12/2002-Jim Neiswinter Collection.

Realized $3,240
