Lot 837

1850 N-23 R2 PCGS graded MS65 Brown. Highly lustrous light bluish steel brown and olive with nearly 20% of the mellowing mint red remaining, mostly on the reverse. Satiny mint frost covers this cent, even on the highest points of the devices, and the eye appeal is outstanding. The best identifying mark is a microscopic tick on the coronet over the right edge of the L in LIBERTY. MDS, die state a, before the line is added connecting the tops of the O & F in OF. Our grade is MS63, tied for CC#4 in the Grellman census. Noyes photo #37542. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Population 1; none finer in BN for the variety at PCGS.
Estimated Value $800-UP.
Ex G. Les Dawson, McCawley & Grellman Auctions 1/11/1997:606-Stuart MacDonald, Heritage 9/1997:6767-Jack Wadlington, Stack's Bowers 7/16/2015:2551.
