Lot 79

1817 N-15 R4 PCGS graded MS62 Brown, CAC Approved. Lustrous golden brown and light olive with subtle overtones of light bluish steel on the reverse. Faint peeps of very faded mint red can be found on both sides and this cent has excellent eye appeal. No spots or stains, only a few trivial contact marks. The notable ones are a few microscopic ticks on the cheek and a small diagonal nick under the right end of the line below CENT. MDS with a die crack connecting stars 1-3 and fine radial die flowlines covering the fields. Delicate die clashmarks show on both sides and the repunching at the bottoms of the ON in ONE and N in CENT remains clear. Graded MS62 and finest of only 2 mint state examples in the Noyes census, his photo #21082. Bland says MS60+ and CC#1 in his census. Our grade is MS62. A great cent that comes with a very nice provenance. PCGS population 2; 2 finer for the variety, 1 in 63, 1 in 64. Estimate Value $3,500 - UP
