Lot 789

1827. Square base 2. Overton-120a, Rarity 3. NGC graded MS-67. Frosty and well struck, with every device brought fully up by the dies and the stars show strong radial lines on most of them on the left, soft centers on the uppermost and right side stars as usually seen for this die variety. There are strong die lines below Liberty's bust, always seen on this issue. What is most incredible is the exceptional quality of the fields and devices. Close scrutiny with a strong loupe scarcely finds any sign of contact. Not only is this the finest example of this die variety known, but it is likely one of the very finest for this year as well in terms of technical grade quality. This coin was held in the phenomenal Phil Kaufman Collection, sold 22 years ago. This coin is simply magnificent! Pop 1; the finest example graded at both services for the variety. Estimated Value $20,000 - UP
From Bowers and Merena's Phil Kaufman Collection, August 1999.

Realized $42,000
