Lot 736

1896-S. PCGS graded MS-64. Popular key date with a low, low mintage of 188,039 pieces and this is one of the nicer ones to come down to us today. The obverse and reverse are both frosty and bright, with copious amounts of luster and generous eye appeal. This has long been known to be one of the "Big Three" rarities of the Barber quarter series, along with the 1901-S and 1913-S issues. Well struck and white in color with just a hint of tone. Close examination of the obverse finds very few signs of handling on this near gem quarter, matching the reverse too where no noteworthy marks are present. Thus the eye appeal and quality remain high and this sparkling jewel will undoubtedly be the highlight of an advanced collection of Barber Quarters! Semi reflective surfaces. Pop 13; 13 finer, 7 in 65, 3 in 65+, 3 in 66. (PCGS # 5615) Estimated Value $17,000 - UP
