Lot 715

1848 N-32 R5 VF20. Glossy light olive and chocolate brown. The surfaces are smooth and attractive, but there are traces of extremely faint roughness in a few places on the obverse rim. No verdigris, only a few minor contact marks. A tiny planchet chip off the upper right point of star 1 (as struck) can help identify this cent. EDS. The die cracks on the reverse are present but light and fine parallel die lines show from the dentils at stars 11-13. A nice example of this tough die variety. Tied for CC#5 honors in the Grellman census. Estimate Value $300 - UP
A new discovery by Allen Ross.
