Lot 693

1829 N-3 R3 Medium Letters Reverse PCGS graded AU50. Frosty olive brown and dark steel with slightly lighter steel brown and chocolate toning on the devices. The frosty luster covers the fields and protected areas on both sides and the eye appeal of this cent is excellent. The only marks are a faint planchet lamination on the tip of the bust, another in the field before the end of the nose, another over the left side of star 12, and some more under the C in CENT (all as struck). MDS. There is very little wear on the highpoints but the strike is weak, as usual for this variety. If you grade by surfaces (as Breen suggested), you would place this cent near mint state. Our grade is AU50 net EF40 for the planchet lamination flaws. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 2 finer: 1 in 53, 1 in 64.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.

Realized $1,586
