Lot 675

1876-CC WB-33, Small CC. PCGS graded MS-63. Lightly toned with prooflike fields. The devices show considerable mint frost while the fields are reflective. Walter Breen examined similar example from these dies and declared that coin to be a Branch Mint Proof, this theory has since been discounted by others including Bill Bugert who specializes in these Liberty Seated Half Dollars. Other die pairings of 1876-CC half dollars exhibit similar reflectivity and frost. For an in depth discussion on this topic please see Bill Bugert's informative reference work A Register Of Liberty Seated Half Dollar Varieties Volume II Carson City Branch Mint specifically pages 140 and 141. What is important to realize is that this is a spectacular coin which offers satin silver frost on the devices, strong reflectivity and is scarce in grades even approaching this lofty level (PCGS # 6353) Estimated Value $1,100 - 1,200

Realized $1,920
