Lot 67

1794 S-25 R3 F12+. Sharpness VF20 but both sides have been lightly burnished, especially the portrait and obverse fields. The reason for the burnishing is unclear since there does not appear to have been any significant roughness on either side. No verdigris, and the only notable mark is a small pinprick dig just left of the numerator in the fraction. Glossy dark chocolate brown and steel with lighter brown toning in protected areas on the reverse. MDS showing die clashmarks on the reverse and a fine double profile from the forehead down to the lips. Struck with the dies out of proper axial alignment (the die faces were not perfectly parallel) causing a very strong strike on the lower part of the obverse and opposing upper part of the reverse while leaving weakness at ERTY and along the bottom of the reverse. Estimated Value $500-UP

Ex R. J. Rudolph Collection.
