Lot 640

1852 N-3 R1 NGC graded MS63 Red & Brown. Lustrous mint red fading to dark steel brown and olive with more than a third of both sides showing mellowed mint color. The only mark is a dull vertical nick in the field over the tip of the bust. Nicely struck with full radial lines in all the stars, and star 11 shows clear repunching. Scarce LDS, die state c, with the base of the 1 quite thin due to excessive die wear. The reverse is not rotated, which is unusual for this variety. Our grade is MS63, tied for CC#4 in the Grellman census. Estimate Value $400 - UP
Ex Stack's 3/1979:1855-Stack's 11/1994:667-Eugene Gardner, Heritage 10/27/2014:98054-Marc Padre Collection (lot ticket included).
