Sale 130

Lot 638

1801. PCGS graded AU-58. Premium Quality. B-3, BB-213, R-3. Right foot of all T's missing on the reverse (the engraver's punch had a broken serif on the letter T, lower right). Delicate light golden silver toning. Boldly struck for an 1801 dollar, and much nicer in quality than usual found, at these tend to be weakly struck and not lustrous as seen here. Quite impressive for the date and variety, and certainly one of the finer examples known. There is a hint of a tiny edge clip on the planchet between star seven and the L of LIBERTY, but this is noted for identification purposes and not as a detriment. A spectacular example of this prized date and issue. Well struck. A lightly toned example with semi reflective fields. Just graded for the first time (PCGS # 6893) Estimated Value $8,000 - 9,000

Realized $17,700
