Lot 624

1851/81 N-3 R1 Overdate 51 over Inverted 18 NGC graded MS64 Red & Brown. Choice lustrous medium steel brown and light olive with 15-20% of the mint red remaining on both sides. A cent with great eye appeal and only a few minor marks. The notable ones are a speck of carbon over star 4, a tiny tick on the nose even with the eye, and another on the upper lip. M-LDS, die state b. The undertype inverted 18 is visible under the 51, but it is not strong. Struck with a low spot that blunts the right half of the neck and the adjacent curls (caused by debris on the die). Our grade is MS63. Comes with an excellent provenance. Estimate Value $1,000 - UP
