Lot 624

1852 N-22 R1. MS-64. Lustrous chocolate and steel brown with at 25% of the faded mint color remaining, mostly on the reverse. The surfaces are virtually flawless and the eye appeal is outstanding. A microscopic planchet flake over the peak of the 1 (visible only with the aid of a strong glass) is the best identifying mark. LDS, die state d (Newcomb's old #9). There is some strike doubling (from die bounce) on the reverse, strongest at the O in ONE and C in CENT. Tied for CC#7 overall but finest of the late die state. Removed from an NGC slab graded MS65RB (NGC label included).
Estimated Value $800 - 1,200.
