Lot 616

1849 N-18 R6 PCGS graded Proof-64 Red & Brown, CAC Approved. Bright mint red mellowing to bluish steel and light olive with more than a third of the original red remaining. An outstanding proof cent, nearly flawless except for a couple minor spots. A tiny spot over the peak of the 1 and another even smaller one nestled between the left points of star 7 can help identify this example. The fields are nicely reflective with the mirrors deeper on the obverse than the reverse, as always. A premium example of this tough proof-only variety. Our grade is Proof-64, tied for CC#2 honors behind a marginally finer example in the Grellman census. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 2 finer in 65 for the variety. Estimate Value $15,000 - UP
Ex Stack's 1/2009:84-Stack's 7/2009:187-Adam Mervis, Heritage 1/10/2014:2326.
