Lot 570

1818 N-3 R3 NGC graded MS64 Brown. Very attractive lustrous medium steel brown with a subtle hint of bluish steel overtone and generous peeps of mellowed mint red showing on the reverse. A small puff of slightly darker steel toning between star 7 and the dentils above and a small spot of dark toning at a dentil right of star 12 are the notable marks. MDS showing fine radial die flowlines in the fields and a couple tiny rim cuds below the 18, but the spike up from the coronet tip is still present. The portrait is very sharply struck and the reverse is rotated 45 degrees CCW relative to the normal head-to-foot die orientation. Our grade is MS62+, CC#3 for the variety. This coin will be the finest MSBN example graded at both services for the variety once attributed on the label. Estimated Value $3,000 - UP
Ex Thomas D. Reynolds 7/17 2013.
