1845 N-4 R1 Repunched 5 PCGS graded MS63 Red. Frosty bright mint red starting to mellow to light steel brown on the devices with about 75% of the mint color remaining. This is a lustrous gem cent except for some microscopic specks of darker toning scattered over the obverse. The notable spots are one in the hair under star 8, another hidden at the top of the B in LIBERTY, and a tiny one over the right point of star 3. The only sign of contact is a thin, light diagonal nick in the field midway between the chin and star 1. Sharply struck EDS, die state a. The reverse is uncracked and the repunching on the top of the 5 is obvious. Our grade is MS64. Tied for CC#1 in the Grellman census, and this piece has more mint color. The attribution and Iskra provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; none finer and the only RD example of the variety at PCGS. Estimated Value $2,500-UP
