Lot 550

1794 S-55 R2 F15. Significantly sharper where properly struck but there is weakness at the bottom of the obverse and the opposing area at the top of the reverse. Apparently the dies were not in proper axial alignment (die faces not parallel). While the details over most of the coin are consistent with a VF20 or better grade, the date and most of STATES are weak. Mostly glossy medium chocolate speckled with darker chocolate and olive brown toning. The surfaces are mostly smooth but there are a few very tiny flakes or pits on both sides, mostly in the poorly struck areas. A minor rim bruise over the E in LIBERTY can help identify this piece. MDS, Breen state II, with die cracks on the obverse. Estimated Value $600 - UP

Realized $840
