Lot 541

1829 N-6 R6 (as a proof) PCGS graded PR64 Brown. Steel brown and chocolate with lighter brown and tan in protected areas. Generous traces of faded mint red show on the reverse. A splash of slightly darker chocolate brown toning in the field right of stars 4 & 5 can help identify this example. Sharply impressed except for some weakness on stars 6-9. The fields are smooth and slightly reflective, but the mirrors are shallow, which is typical for these early proofs. Struck with the reverse rotated 40-45 degrees CCW relative to the normal head-to-foot orientation. A great cent that comes with an important provenance. Graded Proof-64 in the Loring proof census. Bland says Proof-65. Our grade is Proof-63. Noyes photo #28873. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; the only PR BN example graded at PCGS and tied with a single NGC graded example for finest BN at both services. Estimate Value $20,000 - UP
