Great Britain. Medal, 1721. MI-454,63; Eimer-493; Woolf-40.1. Bronze. 49.9 mm. by O. Hamerani, Rome. Prince James (III), 'The Only Safeguard'. Armored bust of Prince James right. Reverse: Hanoverian horse tramples on the English lion and Scottish unicorn, the distraught figure of Britannia to left; view of London in the background. This medal was intended to show that after the debacle of the South Sea Bubble in 1720, Prince James (III) was the only sure safeguard or hope for the nation. NGC graded MS-63 Brown.
