Huntington, Samuel, Signer of Declaration of Independence, Document Signed in 1792, An Appointment for Notary Public as Governor of Conn (1731-1796) Samuel Huntington, from Windham in the Connecticut Colony became one of the most important jurist and statesman from the state. As a delegate to the Continental Congress, he signed the Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation. He also served as President of the Continental Congress from 1779 to 1781, President of the United States in Congress Assembled in 1781, chief justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court from 1784 to 1785, and the 18th Governor of Connecticut from 1786 until his death. Here Huntington has boldly signed as Governor and Commander in Chief of Connecticut an appointment to a Robert Walker as a Notary Public for Fairfield, Connecticut. On laid paper, 13 x 8" and very handsomely matted and framed to 20 x 14". Square shaped discoloration in text in no way impacts the clarity and bold quality of Huntington's signature.
