California Gold Rush/Mining: Collection of Eight (8) Letters, a Receipt and Confirmaion 1850-1890. Plus Fractional/Pioneer Gold Piece, 50¢ 1853. Interesting collection of eight letters, five with transcriptions which prove very helpful due to the difficulty of the handwriting and in one case the amusing mangling of the English language. One letter dated 1855 from Mosquito, is from a Franklin Davy to his sister talking about his claim on Rich Flat and a second letter as if a journal entry dated Oct. 24 and 25th again to his sister regarding not having been "ground sluicing" due to illness sweeping his camp. Another from 1857, San Francisco with an Edward Williams to his Uncle regarding the loss due to fires in Gold Bluff. A letter from Davenport, 1859 and references the Pike Peak & Cherry Creek fever is on the increase "and I have my nose frosted, also the gold fever is so strong that it is breaking on in shape of boils on the back of neck that the only remedy may be a trip to the mines". The other letters intrigue as well.

Also included is an authentic 50¢ fractional or pioneer gold piece dated 1853, Coin is in good condition with details still very much visible. Estimated Value $300 - 600
From the Collection of Carol & Richard Basler.
