Lot 4276

Great Britain. Crown, 1662. S.3350. Charles II, 1660-1685. Draped and laureate bust of King facing right. Rose below. Reverse: Crowned cruciform shields. Interlinked C's in angles. Edge has basic legend: DECVS ET TVTAMEN (An Ornament and a Safeguard) without date. This is a simply magnificent example of one of the first 'Restoration' Crowns. The early Charles II 'fine shilling pieces' were struck in low relief and it is unusual to fine a currency specimen in a higher grade than VF. Current catalogue price in XF is £3650 (around $6700). Considerably nicer than the Spin catalogue plate coin, and one of the most attractive examples to be offered in the marketplace for many years. NGC graded AU-53.
Estimated Value $5,400 - 6,000.

Realized $6,440
