Three Magnificent Antique Victorian Era Tartan Ware Hour Glasses. From the mid to late 1800's when interest in Scotland grew due the purchase of Balmoral by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, tourists were eager to purchase mementos of their travels. Many small artifacts were manufactured to fulfill this purpose and they are now antique and highly collectible. Tartan Ware also incorporated many of the different identifying plaids of the Scottish clans, printed them on thick paper and then covered the wood accessories with remarkable exactness. Offered here three (3) hour glasses in graduated sizes, the smallest being 3 minute and the other two something like 10 minutes. The tallest is 8 x 4 x 4 " and marked "Cameron" in very small print on the edge of one of the bases. The medium is 5½ x 3 x 3" with "McDuff" in very small print on the edge of one of the bases. The smallest is 3½ x 2 x 2" and is not marked with the name of its tartan pattern but looks like "Stuart". All are in excellent condition. Estimate Value $500 - UP
