Lot 402

1795 C-6a R2 Plain Edge, No Pole PCGS graded AU55. Frosty chocolate brown and steel with lighter brown toning in protected areas. The toning is a bit uneven on the obverse where the portrait and field to the right are a few shades darker than the remainder of the coin. There is very little if any friction on the highpoints of the devices and the only notable marks are a light rim nick under the bust tip and two tiny rim ticks over TE in UNITED. Struck about 5% off center to K-10 on a planchet cut from a Talbot Allum & Lee Cent. Clear undertype from the TAL Cent is visible in the obverse fields, strongest around the date and below the cap. EDS, Manley state 1.0, before any trace of swelling in the field right of the Y in LIBERTY. Our grade is AU50. The attribution (but not off-center error) is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 3 finer, 1 in 63, 1 in 65, 1 in 66+ for the variety. Estimate Value $6,000 - UP
