Antique Naga Buddha Statue in Patinated Bronze and Buddha Sakyamuni in Gold Leaf. Naga, in Hinduism and Buddhism, is the Sanskrit word for a deity taking the form of a great snake, specifically the multi-headed king cobra. The Buddhist naga has the form of a great cobra, usually depicted with a single head but sometimes with many heads as here, but from the back it appears as a single great serpent. The naga here (Mucilinda) protected the Buddha from violent elements after he attained enlightenment. Beautifully cast patinated brass with exceptional polish and detail and of surprising weight. 7" tall
The smaller Buddha Sakyamuni represents the power of an enlightened mind and is the Buddha of Healing and Meditation and appears to be of some age. 3 x 1½". Estimate Value $300 - UP

Realized $192
