Lot 381

1833 N-5 R1 AU55. Repunched 8. PCGS graded MS-62 Brown. Glossy dark steel brown with some lighter brown in protected areas, mostly on the reverse. A thin, light nick midway between star 3 and the nose tip is the only notable defect. Sharply struck EDS with slightly reflective fields and all the fine die lines crisp, including repunching on the 8. Both sides display fine die cracks, as always, but this example shows the top of a stray 8 in the dentils under the 8 in the date. The reverse is rotated 35 degrees CW. Seldom seen in this very early die state. Our grade is AU55. Pop 1; 2 in 64BN. DWH #0812.
Estimated Value $400-UP.
Ex Philip Van Cleave, Kagin's 1/30/86:4334.
