Lot 361

1943-S Lincoln Cent. Struck on a Dime Planchet. PCGS graded AU-58. A very rare Error Cent and a close kin to the extremely valuable (and similarly made) 1943-S Bronze Cent. Like the Bronze piece, this mistake was made when a leftover silver Dime planchet was fed into the Cent press. Because the Dime planchet was smaller in thickness and diameter than a Cent, the planchet received an incomplete impression from the dies. Thus, the high points are flat and appear worn, when in fact, they have very little (if any) friction at all! This is a bright example, with lots of original mint luster. All told, this is the only affordable off-metal strike from 1943 -- or you could pay $50,000-$100,000 plus for the Bronze versions! (PCGS # 2717) .
Estimated Value $2,000 - 3,000.

Realized $4,485
