Constantine II, 337-340 AD. Gold 1-1/2 Solidi (6.73g), Thessalonica, struck 337-340 AD. Extremely Rare!!! Bust of Constantine II right, draped and cuirassed, with rosette diadem. Reverse: Constantine II left, in military attire, holding tropaeum, and resting one hand on shield at feet; GLORIA EXERCITVS / TSE. RIC 1; C. 241; Gnecchi I, p. 17, pl. 7, no. 7; Depeyrot p. 295, 1 (citing only 2 examples known). Perfectly centered, with splendid full strike, the fields exceptionally clean. Sharp and lustrous! An impressive numismatic work of the period. Superb Extremely Fine.
