Lot 358

1854 Judd-161 Pattern Cent Rarity-4 NGC graded PF64 Brown. Glossy medium chocolate brown and steel with traces of lighter brown toning on the reverse. Very sharply struck and quite attractive. The only defect is a trace of crud nestled against the base of the E in UNITED. The fields are smooth and slightly reflective but the mirrors are not deep, which is normal for these proof-only strikes. Struck using the same dies as the Judd-160 variety (see the previous lot), but this piece is struck in a bronze alloy that is listed on the NGC label as 94% copper, 5% tin, and 1% zinc. A very nice example of this pattern cent. Our grade is Proof-62. The attribution and alloy mixture are noted on the NGC label.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.

Realized $1,704
