Lot 3575

Nero, 54-68 AD. AE Sestertius, Lugdunum, struck 65 AD. Laureate head right. Reverse: Helmeted Roma seated left on arms, holding Victory and parazonium; S - C in field, ROMA in exergue. RIC 398; C. 261; CBN 76 var. This is a marvelously sharp coin, with perfectly centered reverse on a virtually round flan. The patina barely touched and eminently natural looking. The portrait outstanding -- the reverse even better! Without a doubt, one of the finest Nero pieces we've handled in many years. Superb Extremely Fine.
Estimated Value $3,500 - 5,000.
